NEW Home Sweet Home...well, new to us!
Its official! We have purchased a home in Signal Mountain TN, about 10 miles north of downtown Chattanooga. The house was built in 1976 and needs some love...and we have lots of love to give it. The great location, beautiful neighborhood with large lots and well kept homes sold us on this particular house, along with a vision to make it our own.
If you know me at all, you know I love the ideas of:
turning trash to treasure, making old things new, creating a space that is beautiful & comfortable, and making a house a home that works for our lifestyle.
All of my formal training about design and construction comes from HGTV, who taught me everything I need to know...haha, NOT! Our contractor cringes when I start a sentence with, "Well, last week on Fixer Upper....". Apparently HGTV is not realistic for budget and timeline. We will soon find out during this reno project.
In addition to HGTV watching, I did have some actual design experience in my former life, pre-children. I worked with homebuilders in a selection design center. I assisted & educated homeowners in making selections on brick, paint, countertop, cabinets, flooring, fixtures...everything that went into the home before furniture. It was a dream job and now I get make my own selections. So. Much. Fun!
Friends & family, who also enjoy home projects, encouraged me to start this blog to journal all the renovations. My writing skills leave much to be desired, and my grammar aint always good (sorry Sally) so bare with me and I hope you enjoy the before and after photos along our journey.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, through this journey I hope and pray we are able to create home with lots of laughter, minimal meltdowns (mommy & kids), breaking of bread with glad and sincere hearts (acts2:46), and lots and lots of LOVE!
Here are some BEFORE photos...I was unable to insert the cat and old carpet smell into this post...but try to use your imagination.
New house AND a free Lambda Chi frat keychain- score!
This House appears to be a one story ranch but it is actually a two-story.
The second floor is on the back of the house.
Main floor has foyer, guest room, guest bathroom, playroom, den, formal living, dining, kitchen, mudroom, half bath, laundry and garage.
Upstairs has 3 bedrooms, master bathroom and Jack bathroom (as opposed to Jack-n-Jill bathroom, since we have all boys-haha; stole that joke from my mom).
Unfortunately, we currently do not have a use for these PINK curtains.
baby blue carpet and baby blue wall paint in the master bedroom
previous owners left us this storage wall unit
carpet, carpet...everywhere
After closing, we discovered this unfinished room over the garage.
As you can see, Eric has big plans for a future jam room. (photo credit to my brother David)
Love it! Great bones. Your going to make it fabulous!!! Love Eric's vision of the attic space. Perfection for him. That storage unit is great for a play. Imagine all the toys out away!!!
